Online Art, Photo And Essay Contest - Recognizing the Importance of Louisiana's Coastal Wetlands
Sponsored by The America's WETLAND Foundation

WETLANDS…….fading away
By: Alexis | Group 1 | Laplace

WETLANDS…….fading away

Wet grass and trees
You mean so much to me

When you die
It makes me cry.

You protect us from storms.
And provide homes for animals of all forms.

Cypress trees are tall and green
But the storms are so mean.

Hurricanes push the salt water in
Causing brackish water to begin.

This kills vegetation
Making soil lose its foundation.

Salt-water intrusion
Is causing you to become just an illusion.

You are home to many fish
And we like to eat them as a dish!

Your beauty provides recreation and pleasure
Lots of things we just cannot measure.

Hurricane Katrina swept you away
And took the lives of many away.

You are leaving at a fast rate
And it should be a concern for my state.

Without you, we will go away.
And I will only get to dream about you one day.

A memory you will be
Unless we stop this catastrophe!

WETLANDS…….fading away
Sooner than… someday!
